2023 has been an insane year for AI growth. Every time I scroll my YouTube feeds there’s a new AI tool, or a new prompt that does something totally mind blowing. Which in turn, makes the digital landscape more competitive than ever.

Producing high-quality, engaging, and original content has become crucial in capturing the attention of your target audience, building trust with readers, and ultimately, driving success in the online space.

With the ever-growing demands for new and unique content, AI-powered tools like Jasper.ai and ChatGPT 4 are stepping up to the challenge, making it incredibly easy for content creators, bloggers and marketers to ensure their work is engaging and plagiarism-free.

But now that we have incredible tools like AgilityWriter, Katteb, and KoalaWriter – how do we make sure our content is original and free of plagiarism? Should we even care if AI is showing up on the first page of Google?

That’s where Originality.ai comes in – a new AI content checker and plagiarism tool that has already gained significant popularity in the AI content writing sphere.

But what sets it apart from the rest of the AI content tools out there? Is it as accurate as they claim? Are false positives still an issue? In this review, we will dive deep into the capabilities of this powerful tool and reveal why it’s making waves as one of the best AI content and plagiarism tools in 2023.

Let’s jump in!

Originality.ai Overview: Is It Worth Trying in 2023?

Put simply, Yes. Originality is the current gold standard for anyone wanting to check a site for AI or plagiarism.

Now that I’ve spent some time using the software, I have to say, there’s a lot to like about it. Sure, it’s not 100% spot on everytime, but it’s certainly worth using.

The tool uses GPT-4, OpenAI’s newest (and most current) AI language model, allowing it to effectively detect content from various sources like GPT-2, GPT-3, GPT-J, GPT-Neo, Bing Chat, Bard, and ChatGPT.

There’s also the ability to identify paraphrased content and reduce the number of “false positives”, which makes it a powerful tool for anyone producing client/agency content.

Funnily enough, Matt Diggity made a great video about his experience doing freelancer work with ChatGPT if you want to check it out. He earned $400+ an hour just using ChatGPT tools.

I recently came across Originality.ai’s latest update, the GPT-4 & Precision Update and I have to say that I’m quite impressed with how quickly they’re moving to stay up to date with new prompts that closely mimic personality and paraphrasing.

This update claims to improve the already industry-leading AI detection tool’s accuracy to a stunning 95% – something no other company is boosting at the moment.

After spending some time testing this new version of Originality.ai, I found that it mostly delivers on its promise of detecting both plagiarized and AI-generated content. I did personally test a number of content from Agility Writer, Koala.sh, openai (ChatGPT 4.0), and copy.ai. For the most part, is was dead on, and immediately picked up that it was AI generated content.

There was one scenario that I tested, which I’ll talk about further in the article that was a total miss – but we’ll come back to that shortly.

Originality.ai’s Accuracy Ratings: How Reliable Is It?

Identifying AI content has quickly become a huge need in the copywriting, education and web publishing space. No one wants recycled rubbish content on their website, and plagiarism was already a big problem in the education industry – so Originality has come at the perfect time.

If I’m being honest, I was quite skeptical at first, so I decided to put it to the test to see just how reliable it is. Let me share my findings with you in the following paragraphs.

To evaluate the accuracy of Originality.ai, I fed it both human-written and AI-generated text samples.

using originality.ai to find content thats ai
The red areas indicate 100% AI, orange is somewhere in the middle.

I tested a number of tools and scenarios, and here’s what I found:

Ai Content Generation / Human Content GenerationResult from Originality.ai (I’ll explain this result below)
100% Human Article (Short Form)AI Score 90%
LowFruits Review (Long Form, 500 Characters)AI Score 15%
AI & Me EditingAI Score 100% (Couldn’t fool the tool!)
Agility Writer (Long Form, 500 Characters)AI Score 100%
Koala Chat – Short Form ContentAI Score 100%
KoalaWriter – (Long Form, 500 Characters)Ai Score 100%
Some results I had with Originality.ai

Results Summary:

So you can see from a few tests about using AgilityWriter and KoalaWriter/KoalaChat that Origanality nailed it every time. There was however one use case where I had some mixed results. The final test I ran was me summarising an article, 100% human-written, short-form content – 300+ characters).

My theory around why it determined it was AI content was the fact that I asked ChatGPT to read 5 articles and summarise them into one. I then memorized points from that information, read some other news articles, closed the window, and then wrote from my own perspective.

Maybe I memorized too many of those points and they way they were written, and that’s why it determined it was AI? or Maybe I’m actually a robot and the matrix has taken over. Hard to say I guess? 😉

Reduce False Positives: The Promise of Originality.ai

Originality.ai promises to reduce false positives, which means fewer instances of false alarms when the tool flags content as AI-generated when it’s actually human-written. In my experience, this has proven to be true (so far lol).

As for detecting AI-generated content, Originality.ai doesn’t disappoint either. When running AI-written samples through the tool, it correctly detected them as non-human-generated, which is incredibly helpful as someone who publishes content on a regular basis.

Overall, I’m more than satisfied with Originality.ai’s performance, and I believe it’s one of the best AI content and plagiarism tools out there in 2023. What I really like about Origanility is the fact that their team is really dedicated to staying ahead of the curb – updating their systems as quickly as ChatGPT grows.

Why Originality.ai is a Must-Have for Writers and Bloggers

As a writer and blogger, I’ve found that Originality.ai is an absolute must-have tool in my arsenal. Not only does it help me stay on top of potential copyright issues, but it also lets me maintain a high standard of authenticity in my content.

is orignality.ai good for bloggers

I’ve personally used a lot of writing services over the years, with WritersAccess being my current favorite – and knowing I have a tool I can rely on to scan the content I get back is a huge factor. I know that I’ll never get 100% AI content back from any writing service, but it’s nice to run it through the tool for potential issues anyway. Just gives me peace of mind as I keep growing my sites out.

Originality.ai for Educators and Students: Upholding Academic Integrity

With the plethora of information available online, it’s become increasingly challenging to ensure students are submitting original work. I have close family members who are already seeing a huge influx of “that looks suss” essays lol.

I told them about Originality and the power to detect AI content and they’ve already got on the bandwagon too. They’ve told me that having access to a tool like this fosters a culture of honesty and fairness across the classroom. Makes sense.

Meanwhile, for students, they can confidently submit their assignments, knowing that they haven’t accidentally plagiarized or used AI-generated content. Also a great use case for the software.

Originality.ai’s Challenges: The Growing Speed of AI Content

Ever since I started using Originality.ai, one challenge I’ve come across is keeping up with the growing speed of AI content. It seems like AI-generated content is evolving and becoming more human-like every day. Some of the prompt engineering I’m seeing on YouTube is totally insane.

That being said, I’m really impressed at the job they’re doing in staying up-to-date with these advancements, making it an essential tool to have in my content creation arsenal.
